The accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Monday evening. The driver allegedly drove onto the emergency lane and overturned when he tried to correct his path. This was reported by the first councilor of the municipality of Wellin, Thierry Denoncin.

There were about forty cows on board the cattle truck, eleven of which died. Several fire brigades, traffic police, civil protection and a veterinarian were mobilized for the accident. Several local farmers also arrived on the scene with cattle trucks to recover the surviving cows before they were handed over to a specialist animal transport company.

Due to the accident, the highway was closed in both directions until Tuesday morning so that possible escaped cows would not cause a second accident.
