Palermo: new troubles for the Orlando junta, councilor Catania disheartened

by admin

PALERMO – The city council of Palermo last night voted no confidence in the councilor for Mobility Giusto Catania, an exponent of the Common Left several times at the center of controversy for his positions on Ztl and other initiatives related to public transport.

The motion passed in court with 21 votes in favor; the chairman of the board Totò Orlando abstained. In addition to the opposition, from Lega to Forza Italia, the directors of Italia Viva, M5s and Io Oso also voted no confidence; the councilors of Avanti Insieme and Sinistra Comune left the courtroom without being able to make the quorum missing.

On the agenda was the approval of the consolidated financial statements, which however took a back seat compared to an old motion of 2019, signed by the director Fabrizio Ferrandelli against the commissioner accused of “trampling on the prerogatives of the board of which he himself was a part of. ” Councilor Catana responded by publishing a post on Twitter with the photo of Groucho Marx and the phrase “A laugh will bury you.”

In recent weeks, Mayor Orlando first replaced the councilors of Italia Viva, whose group had entered a collision course with the majority; a month ago the councilor for solidarity citizenship Giuseppe Mattina resigned, following an investigation into the activity of some non-profit organizations in which he is being investigated; four days ago the councilor for public works Maria Prestigiacomo, also involved in an investigation by the prosecutor on the purification service, handed over the delegation to the subsidiaries.

There were numerous reactions after the vote in the classroom. For the municipal councilor and leader of Più Europa Fabrizio Ferrandelli, who presented the motion of no confidence, “” the councilor Catania shows the absence of dialogue and democratic confrontation, in fact glossing over the possibility of a shared path, as with the suspension of the Ztl in defiance of the deliberation of the council and of the choral requests of the traders ».

For Dario Chinnici and Gianluca Inzerillo, group leaders of Italia Viva and Iv-Sicilia Futura, “the motion of no confidence to the councilor Catania, voted almost unanimously by the municipal council of Palermo, is the foregone conclusion of an administrative experience full of bankruptcies. Now Catania has a leap of dignity and resigns ».

The leader of the League, Igor Gelarda, also follows the same line: «a truly conscientious councilor, who realizes that the body elected by the citizens of Palermo has discouraged him should resign immediately. We will discourage all those who have supported and who support this misrule of Leoluca Orlando. Palermo must be freed ».

For the municipal councilor Marianna Caronia, finally, it is “a signal and a political vote that unfortunately the Mayor will not grasp, continuing to talk about a city that does not exist”.
