Paola Carron: “The Pedemontana will change our lives, but now I expect discounts for residents”

TREVISO. In a year that will also be remembered for the escalation in the prices of raw materials and transport, the opening of the Pedemontana Expressway in the Marca rhymes, for businesses, with “savings”.

Net of a few pieces to be placed under the tolls item, the inauguration of the Bassano Ovest-Montebelluna Est section, scheduled for tomorrow morning, will allow goods and people to travel faster and at lower costs. Paola Carron, vice president of Assindustria with responsibility for construction, territory and infrastructure is convinced of this.

How will the life of Treviso companies change from tomorrow, with the opening of the first Treviso section of Pedemontana?

«Well, I’m curious to get on it and try it: I live it in a particular way, it is a stone’s throw from our company, I hope it will change our lives. We are based in San Zenone, therefore very close to the Riese and Mussolente toll booths. Until now I used to get into my car to go to Treviso without knowing how long it would take. I did not think I would see it built in these times, we acknowledge the Region and its president for having believed in it and for having accelerated to get to the inauguration tomorrow ».

What worries the manufacturing world, however, are the tolls. What do you think?

«Having the telepass, you don’t realize the exact figures, but from Bassano Ovest to Breganze they are about 2.50 euros. There and back every day, for five days, amounts of this kind could weigh on the citizen’s pockets. Living in the area, it is a work that could help us get to work a little more relaxed. Upstream, concessions were provided for residents, then the rules changed and the Region got involved personally and now it has to respect a precise financial plan, but let’s see what can be done from now on ».

From Montebelluna Est, however, to reach Treviso he will still have to return to the ordinary road system. The connection with Spresiano will only arrive at the beginning of 2022. Aren’t we in danger of pouring more traffic onto the usual roads?

«Yes, I believe that it is also essential to strengthen the connections on the North-South axis, after tracing the East-West ones. I also think of those who arrive from Vicenza and have to go to Cittadella: they go out in Bassano and have to make the Valsugana, an artery already blocked by its own. There is a toll booth at the Loria exit to connect with the Statale del Santo, and even here I wonder if the Statale will be able to support a possible increase in traffic. These are the critical issues, but let me reiterate that in any case an important result has been achieved, we have been waiting for it for a long time ».

Does the inauguration come at the right time, from the point of view of the post-Covid economic context?

“In these provinces we have a vocation of a certain type, oriented towards exports. Those who produce in this area must be supported. The pandemic in our sector came when we started to raise our heads, it was an important blow. Now the superbonus has moved the market a bit, it doesn’t concern everyone but there is a lot of curiosity on the subject. Clear extensions would be needed. However, we are living in a difficult time: there is an increase in the prices of raw materials, a cyclical phenomenon which in this case is lasting longer than usual and concerns iron, wood, petroleum derivatives. It is a special moment and for many the costs have increased ».

Will the Pedemontana, apart from tolls, reduce transport charges?

«Journey times will be reduced, and time can be turned into money. And in any case it will allow us to travel a little more relaxed than before: which cannot be quantified from an economic point of view, but it will be very happy all the same ».

THE BOARD

After tomorrow’s inauguration, there will be two steps left to complete the Treviso section of the Pedemontana. The expressway that tomorrow will reach Montebelluna Est from Bassano (35 kilometers), in fact, will still have to connect to Povegliano and then, subsequently, to Spresiano and the A27. The two missing sections will be inaugurated with different timing. Montebelluna-Povegliano should be accessible by the end of this year, October-November 2021 at best.

While the last portion of the road, the one from Povegliano to the Venice-Belluno motorway, will probably be open in the early months of 2022, even if the governor Zaia pushes so that the last phase of construction can be accelerated and inaugurated the ‘works by the end of the year. Going along the Spv towards the West, however, from tomorrow you can reach Malo, in the Vicenza area, through the toll booths of Montebelluna Ovest, Riese Pio X, Mussolente, Bassano Est, Bassano Ovest, Marostica, Breganze, connection with the A31, Malo . At that point, the final stretch of the Pedemontana Superstrada will be missing, from Malo to the connection with the A4 passing through Castelgomberto Valdagno, Montecchio Arzignano, Montecchio-Alte, for which times will be longer.
