Part of the bicycle from the Carlos Vives monument was not stolen

This Monday morning, the Vallenato community was surprised to see that part of the rear tire of the bicycle, which is part of the Carlos Vives sculpture, located in La Provincia Park, was not in its place, which at first instance they interpreted it as a lack of civic culture, since several of the sculptures of the vallenatos exponents have been deteriorated frequently.

But immediately, members of the park administration and the National Police clarified that it was not intentional damage, but that the piece was removed for repair, before it was totally destroyed.

The National Police, through a statement, clarified that vendors in the area informed the CAI uniformed officers about the detachment of part of the monument’s tire due to excessive use and deterioration by people.

After the alert, the police notified the park administrators, who were in charge of securing the damaged element.

The authorities invite the public, so that in case of any criminal situation, they provide information to line 123 of the National Police.

Diego López, president of Parque Los Juglares and a friend of Parque La Provincia, in a message addressed to the public, reiterated that the officials and tourist guides delivered part of the tire and the rack of the bicycle from the Carlos Vives monument, to the officials of the police and since yesterday it was taken for repair.

“This is done with the obligation to keep the public informed, so that they know that the World Capital of Vallenato has suitable people who have a sense of belonging to the manifestations of Vallenato folklore,” he said.

Sculptures by Vallenato artists such as Iván Villazón, Jorge Oñate, Kaleth Morales and Carlos Vives are located in La Provincia park, which makes the place a tourist attraction daily, it is visited by locals and visitors alike.

However, in recent times, the lack of civic culture has led to the deterioration of the pieces, some have even had to be removed for repair.

In the case of Jorge Oñate’s sculpture, they tore off part of the gramophone in one of his hands.

These facts were rejected by the Mayor of Valledupar, who called on the citizens to take care of public goods.
