As in much of the world, Muslims (14 percent of the country’s population, according to official data) celebrated the holiday that concludes the purification month of Ramadan on 2 May in Uganda. During the rites at the Old Kampala national mosque, the leaders of the Islamic community appealed to the government to increase aid to poor Ugandans, affected by the rise in the cost of basic necessities.
