He hosted a Halloween party in his house

(ANSA) – LIMA, NOV 03 – The Peruvian Minister of the Interior resigned after the spread of a news that he would have held a Halloween party in his home, in violation of the anti Covid-19 regulations.

The South American country has been hit hard by the pandemic, with over 200,000 people dying from the virus and the highest per capita death rate in the world.

Minister Luis Barranzuela was overwhelmed by criticism while in office for less than a month following the broadcast of television reports documenting a Halloween party at his home in Lima, a gathering banned by a government decree a few days earlier.

The news sparked indignation throughout the political spectrum in the country of 33 million inhabitants. Barranzuela claimed that the meeting had been organized for work reasons and to be the victim of “false accusations”, but his abandonment was inevitable, also in view of the vote of confidence in the government led by the Prime Minister of Castillo, Mirtha Vasquez, expected tomorrow in Congress, currently controlled by the right.

“I have received and accepted the resignation of Interior Minister Luis Barranzuela – tweeted the left-wing president Pedro Castillo -. His successor will be sworn in in the next few hours”.

According to the local press, if the 58-year-old former policeman Barranzuela had remained in office, the government would have been beaten. (HANDLE).
