12-year-old E’minie Hughes found safe after Amber Alert issued in Houston

Houston, Texas (CNN) – E’minie Hughes, the 12-year-old girl who went missing in the Houston area, has been found unharmed, police confirmed. Last seen on February 22, Houston police issued an Amber Alert on Wednesday, stating they believed she may have been trafficked.

In a post on Twitter, Houston police announced that E’minie was found in Columbus, Texas, which is about 117 kilometers from where she disappeared. FBI Houston also confirmed their involvement in the search for E’minie, stating that they were proud to have helped rescue another missing child, with two children recovered in two days.

Police did not disclose any further details about the case, stating that the investigation is ongoing. When Hughes first disappeared, she was believed to have left alone, but new information led authorities to suspect she may have been trafficked.

E’minie was last seen getting into a dark-colored four-door Dodge pickup truck in Missouri City, a suburb of Houston. According to an Amber Alert, she may have been using the social media app Tagged, prompting the platform’s parent company, The Meet Group, to offer assistance to Houston authorities.

The girl’s mother, Shannon Williams, reported that she woke up to find her daughter missing, with E’minie believed to have only taken an Android tablet and the clothes she was wearing. Williams expressed uncertainty about whether her daughter had been communicating with anyone online.

In light of this incident, experts emphasize the importance of open communication between parents and children about setting healthy relationships and boundaries, especially when interacting with others online.
