Polluted waters, Eni company in Gela seized

The Prosecutor of Gela has seized the Syndial Sicily Company, now Eni Rewinds Spa, a company branch of the Gela refinery that deals with remediation. According to the technical investigations carried out by the consultants of the public prosecutors, the plan of the Ministry of the Environment regarding the reclamation of groundwater was not respected. The investigations revealed high concentrations of manganese, hydrocarbons and mercury in the waters which then end up in the sea or in the land.

The appointment of a judicial administrator

The preventive seizure has also been ordered of the areas of the plant intended for the implementation of the reclamation. The investigating judge of Gela has ordered the appointment of a judicial administrator who will have to carry out the reclamations.
The investigative activity was carried out by the Port Authority of Gela and by the Police Commissioner of Gela as delegated by the Public Prosecutor led by the prosecutor Fernando Asaro.
