The prosecutor of Genoa will send to the GUP in the next few hours, between today 25 June and at the latest on Monday 28, the requests for indictment for about sixty suspects in the investigation into the collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa.
This is the investigation relating to the tragedy of the viaduct which, in August 2018, caused the death of 43 people. Compared to the 69 suspects, cited in the notice of closing investigations last April, about ten positions (which will be the focus of subsequent investigations) would have been set aside, according to what is learned from judicial sources, bringing the final number of requests for postponement to about 60.

Once the request has been formally sent, it will be up to the GUP to convene the first hearing, which could be held as early as the summer, setting the eventual start of the actual trial in the autumn.
Investigation lasted almost 3 years
The investigation by the Ligurian prosecutor lasted almost three years and involved, in various capacities, former executives and top managers of Autostrade per l’Italia, its subsidiary Spea and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The accusations are, for various reasons, of multiple manslaughter, willful collapse, road homicide, forgery and an attack on transport safety.
For the investigators, everyone knew that the Morandi was in bad condition and that it was necessary to intervene with restoration works. But according to the accusation, those works were postponed over time to follow the logic of maximum profit with minimum expense and give greater dividends to the shareholders.
