Presidencies of the Bim Consortium and the Province. Departed late, De Bon’s coup

The mayor of Sospirolo was a surprise candidate for the basin body, triggering the voting mechanism after two years of postponements

BELLUNO. A coup de hand to the Bim Consortium, where the election of the new president has been awaited for two years. To press on the accelerator, triggering the voting mechanism in an irreversible way, was Mario De Bon, mayor of Sospirolo of the center-left area, tired of waiting for the timing of politics. As per tradition, in fact, the parties are looking for an agreement to share the leadership of the Bim Consortium and the Province, but on Bim the stalemate is not released, so much so that the president Umberto Soccal resigned a couple of months ago to solicit a solution.

In the months, however, nothing has happened, most likely pending the expiry of the mandate of the President of the Province, to be renewed in September. The agreement actually focuses on names, because in the Consortium the center-right prevails (each mayor has one vote), while in the Province (where all the municipal councilors vote according to the size of the municipality) the center-left is stronger.

On Monday at the Bim Consortium there was yet another postponement, precisely because the parties have not yet found the square, and at that point Mario De Bon decided to break: he asked the regent president Pier Luigi Svaluto Ferro to convene the assembly of mayors for Thursday, he submitted his application and program in the morning and in the afternoon he went to see.

The outcome was a success: 27 votes out of 49 voters, an unexpected result that is not enough for the election with a qualified procedure, but nevertheless represents a sign of appreciation for De Bon’s move also by some center-right mayors.

The parties took it much less well: «Yes, someone called me saying ‘are you crazy? so you break everything ”», says De Bon, who at this point says he is very tired of the political negotiation on the future of the Province and the Consortium. “For some time there has been this political movement to manage the choice of the two presidents,” says the mayor of Sospirolo. “Names have been made, but it has never come to the point and for too long it has been getting worse, so much so that we have been waiting for two years. I don’t want to be president of the Consortium at all costs, if a good name arrives I will gladly vote for it ».

De Bon recalls that first there was talk of a territorial candidacy, that is, one that considered the rotation of the valleys, then of a purely political candidacy, then of asking a group of wise men to draw up a program to be submitted to the candidates. In fact, the names that circulated were those of Marco Staunovo Polacco, mayor of Comelico Superiore (center-right) and of De Bon himself. But the problem of the Province remains, where politics is still on the high seas and the name of the outgoing president Roberto Padrin remains strong. «The Bim Consortium is an independent and very important body for this territory, it is not right to continue like this just because politics cannot decide. Mayors make mayors instead of waiting for orders that must come from who knows where. Let’s take our responsibilities, because staying still is a fault », concludes De Bon.
