Psychiatry in Feltre, Cisl on alert: “If it closes, protection is needed”

Workers summoned to the meeting to face a hypothetical reorganization. The association Tutti in campo: the furniture removed, the family members are worried

FELTRE. “If Psychiatry closes, our duty is to protect the staff and relocate them.” This is the first thought of the CISL FP trade union which organized for tomorrow an assembly of workers in service at the Guarnieri pavilion and sympathizers, with only one item on the agenda: “Possible reorganization and redeployment of staff in case of suspension / closure of the psychiatry ward of the hospital of Feltre ».

“We have no confirmation today that the Ulss Dolomiti management closes the department,” said the CISL secretary for Belluno and Treviso, Fabio Zuglian. «But when they have to proceed with this type of action, it is right to protect the staff and verify what the appropriate relocation can be, given that the training of nurses and operators is peculiar. It would be a shame to disperse this heritage in terms of human resources, the result of years of work with this delicate user. We will therefore have to look for possible solutions to best guarantee the quality of the service, for example by strengthening the territorial one. But in the phase we are in today, what we can do as a union is to hear the concerns of the workers and evaluate expectations and requests about relocation to other services or departments ».

Regardless of the decision on the maintenance of hospitalizations in Feltre for the summer or for the future, for Psychiatry the day hospital activity – which will be strengthened – and the outpatient one for visits to outpatients both scheduled and on direct access will continue.

The head physician Massimo Semenzin, who won the competition in Pordenone where he should have already taken up his duties, will probably remain at Ulss Dolomiti for the whole summer.

Meanwhile, the Feltre Psychiatry Service is proceeding with the discharge of patients who have passed the acute phase and who can go home or to other care facilities. The president of the Tutti in campo association, Loris Scopel, has received more than one concern on the part of family members of hospitalized patients about the feeling that there is also a physical dismantling of the ward. “I am told that the furnishings in the guest living room would have been removed or put elsewhere. Maybe there will be a reason “, says Scopel,” and it is not necessarily related to the closure of the department. But all this, combined with the serious difficulties in finding the timely specialist doctors who can guarantee the standard of care, creates further anxiety among those who, in the family, have a relative with psychiatric disorders who in turn often need the hospital “.

Meanwhile, the executive of mayors for the district of Feltre is also convened tomorrow afternoon. “We are working hard on the psychiatry of the future,” explains Mayor Paolo Perenzin. «I found great willingness on the part of the general manager Maria Grazia Carraro, who is as interested as we are in finding viable solutions. It is right for committees to report difficult situations as it is the one concerning psychiatry. The task that falls to us as health authorities, and it is not an easy task, is to try to make a contribution to resolve the situation ».
