REGGIO EMILIA – The case of Saman Habbas, an 18-year-old Pakistani woman who has disappeared for almost a month, is investigated for murder in Reggio Emilia. The girl had opposed an arranged marriage, denouncing her parents. The investigators maintain strong confidentiality, but it is possible there are some suspects among the family members. The investigations are followed by the Carabinieri of the Reggio provincial command, coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The parents reportedly returned to Pakistan as a matter of urgency. Saman, after the complaint, had been placed in a protected structure, then once of age she had decided to return to Novellara, in the lower Reggio area. The young woman, still a minor at the time, had turned to social services and her parents, husband and wife aged 43 and 46, were denounced in January by the military on charges of coercion or induction into marriage, after trying to combine the Islamic wedding of his daughter with a cousin of his countryman. An event that had already been set for December 22nd, with airline tickets purchased on December 17th. But the girl did not share this project and had told everything to the social workers of the municipality, who then reported everything to the investigators.

Since she returned home she had already gone away for a few weeks in Northern Europe, before returning. But this time his disappearance became increasingly suspicious. According to the testimonies collected by the investigators, the parents would have recently and quickly returned to their homeland, for an alleged family problem. But the girl, from checks also made with the airports, did not leave with them.

This is why the search machine around the area was started, with helicopters and dogs. And immediately no hypothesis was ruled out. The alarm was caused by the lack of a report of the disappearance and the simultaneous sudden removal of the family.

That’s why the police wanted to shed light on what happened and dispel any doubts. Now it is not excluded that international letters rogatory should be used to track down suspects. We also continue to search for the young woman, but in the last few hours, elements have emerged that make those who investigate think that she may have come to a bad end.
