Retirement incomes for women are 27% lower than those for men

Women are the majority of retirees but only receive 44% of total retirement income. This is what emerges from the Inps Observatory “Pension benefits and beneficiaries of the Italian pension system” according to which women are 52% of the 16,041,202 pensioners. However, they received on average in 2020 € 16,233 compared to the average of 22,351 for men with a difference of 27%. During the year, women received a total of 134,919 million euros in pensions and against 172,771 million euros for men. Overall, INPS paid out € 307.69 billion for pensions in 2020.

There are 22.7 million pensions in force in 2020

The benefits of the Italian pension system in force at the end of 2020 were 22,717,120, for a total annual amount of 307,690 million euros (13,544 euros on average). Compared to 2019, the number of benefits decreased by 0.4% and the corresponding total annual amount increased by 2.3%. The beneficiaries of retirement benefits are 16,041,202 (+ 3.8% compared to 2019) for an average amount of 19,181 euros per year.
