“Anyone who isn’t a little ashamed of what they were the year before is probably not learning enough,” says writer and philosopher Alain de Botton. It’s too extreme a statement for my taste, but I agree with the gist of the sentence. If we are not consistently surpassing who we are, it means that we are not vital enough.
