Why are humans longer-lived than other primates? One of the reasons is the grandmothers. Anthropologists speculate that families with older females thrived early in our evolution. The grandmothers helped take care of the children, ensuring better health for all and a higher reproduction rate than families without grandmothers. And then they passed on their longevity genes, creating other grandmothers. So lucky! Having older women around while growing up has been the key to success for many of us.
