Rome, flames under control in the Malagrotta landfill but it will take days to put out the fire

The flames that broke out in the Tmb waste treatment plant in Malagrotta, on the far western outskirts of Rome, are now under control. The firefighters, about sixty in all, worked all night to prevent the flames from spreading outside the plant. To completely extinguish the fire, which affected two storage and waste treatment sheds, it will take days.

Indignation and anger are expressed by those who live in the Valle Galeria area, near Malagrotta where on the afternoon of yesterday 15 June, at the Tmb plant, a big fire broke out, which lasted all night and which the firefighters placed under control, preventing it from spreading outside the plant. «We are indignant and angry – said Claudio Fetoni, spokesman for the Valle Galeria Libera Committee – we can only say thank you, thanks to the firefighters who did everything to contain the flames. But perhaps not everyone knows that behind the burning plant there is a gas deposit, I don’t want to imagine the consequences “. “Our administrators, politicians do not realize how serious the situation is: we have to stay with the windows closed and a cloud, dense, looks like fog, covers the entire area and then takes the throat – added Fetoni – The children they have to stay indoors, closed schools. No emergency plan “.

Investigation of the Prosecutor’s Office and Gualtieri Ama Summit

The prosecutors of Rome are waiting for an information from the police who intervened to tame the vast fire that hit the landfill: already today they could open an investigation to understand if it was a malicious event. The mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri launches the waste alarm and announces a control room with Ama and the other operators this morning.

It is recommended to limit outdoor activities, with particular regard to those of a recreational and sporting nature and to keep the windows closed in case of persistent and foul-smelling fumes.
