ROUNDUP/Union: Bahn may have to save money on ICE orders

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Because Deutsche Bahn is receiving significantly less money from the federal budget than planned, the company’s board of directors is looking for savings options. “With the savings efforts, further ICE orders may also be up for grabs,” said Martin Burkert, deputy chairman of the supervisory board and head of the EVG railway union, to the German Press Agency. Bahn boss Richard Lutz is looking for savings potential in all areas of the company. The resulting list should be presented to the supervisory board at the end of March.

A railway spokesman said: “There are no plans to cut costs in the procurement of long-distance trains. It is true: around twelve billion euros will flow into new long-distance trains by 2030.”
