by admin

In Santa Margherita it is the day of the G20 for women: “The Italian Presidency of the G20 has strongly wanted this Conference, at a time when Italy has convinced for its own development the path of leading women, empowerment and equality, an objective to be achieved at all levels ”, declared the Minister for Equal Opportunities Elena Bonetti at the opening of the proceedings. «It is our belief that along this path the time has come to accelerate, and that to do this we must encourage a shared approach to the issue. There are many challenges that women have faced in the Covid-19 pandemic and still face: health care in the first place and those caused by burdening the burdens of family care predominantly on the role of women. Such challenges call for a coordinated response within the G20 ”. «The pandemic», continued the minister, «has also marked a dramatic increase in cases of violence against women, aggravating a phenomenon that will remain difficult to combat if not creating conditions of true equality between men and women. For most of the victims, empowerment, even economic, is the only possibility of a way out of violence ”.

The premier’s greeting
“The G20 must do everything it can to ensure that Afghan women retain their fundamental freedoms and rights, especially the right to education. The achievements achieved in the last twenty years must be preserved ». The President of the Council Mario Draghi writes in a message sent to the G20. “We need concrete measures at work: every wasted female talent is a loss for everyone. We risk going back 20 years, the achievements must be preserved “

«Today’s meeting – underlined the premier – was made even more urgent by the crisis in Afghanistan. We must not delude ourselves: Afghan girls and women are on the verge of losing their freedom and their dignity, of returning to the sad condition they were in twenty years ago. They risk becoming second-class citizens once again, victims of violence and systematic discrimination, just because they are women ».

There are two major themes on the conference table hosted by the Grand Hotel Miramare: «Stem, financial and digital skills, environment and sustainability» (in the morning work session) and «work and economic empowerment and harmonization of life times» (in the afternoon). With the international debate pressured by the fall of the Afghan government and the return of the Taliban regime, with direct consequences on the condition of Afghan women, the expectation is that attention will also turn to current events. Afghanistan, then. Recalling that all the interlocutors of these hours (except the Afghan regime itself) participate in the G20: from the USA to the United Kingdom, from the European Union to China, Russia and Turkey, in addition of course to Italy, which is also the presidency of the G20 forum in this 2021.

The world in Santa Margherita
The ministers responsible for Equal Opportunities in the member and host countries are present in the Ligurian town. In addition to representatives of international organizations (Un Women, Oil, OECD). “The goal of the G20”, Bonetti explained, “must be to engage in a joint effort to create an agenda for gender equality at a global level, which sees the convergence of public institutional actors, the private sector and civil society on measurable goals. From a post-pandemic point of view, the empowerment of women remains a question of rights but it is also an unprecedented opportunity for development and a sustainable restart for all and all ».
The Draghi Government “starting from September will activate the Fund to support female entrepreneurship, to stimulate the birth of sustainable start-ups and businesses led by women,” announced the Deputy Minister of Economic Development Alessandra Todde.
