Scratch and win 2 million in tobacconists, the owner: “Here’s who bought the lucky ticket”

UDINE. It seemed like a Wednesday like so many in the village station. The usual faces, the usual grind. The event of the day was to be the opening of the local police station, after months of waiting.

Instead, around 10 in the morning, the blindfolded goddess chose the tobacconist 71 in via Roma 8 to make people talk about herself, attracting everyone’s attention. A middle-aged woman from Eastern Europe (according to the story of the shop owner) walked in and bought five “Mega Billionaire” scratch cards for 50 euros.

Udine, wins two million with a “Scratch and Win”

He started scratching on the counter in the tobacconist’s and at one point his face went pale. A number on the card, 56, corresponded to the highest payout: 2 million euros. The woman could not believe his eyes, and immediately turned to the owner to ask for confirmation, before disappearing.

Incredulous but a millionaire. “He asked me to check the winnings, without tearing the card in case of mismatch of the numbers – says Kan Ni, owner of the tobacconist’s shop in Via Roma with his wife for 9 years -. So I did, and the message appeared on the machine to go to the bank to reserve the sum. It happens for amounts exceeding 10 thousand euros. I didn’t pay much attention to it and asked the lady to be able to photocopy the scratch card before she left ».

Kan Ni, left alone, took the card back in his hand, discovering the millionaire winnings: «The Scratch and Win with us are strong – he adds – but such a figure had never been won here. And I don’t believe in the city either. It’s an incredible thing ». On the identikit of the new millionaire, Kan Ni has no doubts: «She is not a regular customer, but I have often seen her in the tobacconist’s and in the neighborhood. She is a foreign middle-aged woman, I think from Eastern Europe, but I can’t say exactly where she is from ».

A description that leads us to think of one of the many carers who frequent the village station, and who often meet on the benches of Via Leopardi to chat or to eat.

Kan Ni does not expect a reward from the lucky player, but hopes that the money will be useful for those who are not having an easy time: «I hope that the lady manages the winnings in the best possible way, perhaps helping those in need. I don’t expect anything: after all, luck has kissed her ».

Only a few minutes have passed since the winning millionaire and on the plexigas divider above the counter of the tobacconist’s shop, the sign with the words “Won 2 million” is already on display. Kan Ni has also hung the photocopy of the Scratch and Win on the wall, next to the other winnings obtained in the club: 8 thousand euros at the Lotto, 10 thousand euros at the Scratch and Win, 3 thousand euros at the Superenalotto.

Nothing compared to the € 2 million hit yesterday. «The greatest satisfaction, for me – says the owner – is seeing the customer who wins». And when it happens, like yesterday morning, the rumor in the village spreads quickly, and people flock to the tobacconist’s shop even more than usual in search of fortune. “Everyone plays here, Italians and foreigners alike, it is a multi-ethnic neighborhood, and there are many people passing by, given the proximity to the train station – confesses Kan Li -. The thing that unites them is the dream of being able to win something ».

For the city of Udine it is the second millionaire win in this 2021. It had already happened in March, when a lucky one hit the combination of five numbers in the Million Day game at the tobacconist’s in via del Gelso, taking home 1 million euros.
