It is the new Dussmann cooking center, which prepares 2,500 meals daily for the Ivrea and some Canavese schools, inaugurated on Thursday 30 in the presence of representatives of the municipal administration. Last 7 September was the first day of activity of the center, located along the SP 228 of Lake Viverone, in the municipality of Burolo, after the definitive closure of the ancient municipal cooking center in via San Nazario in Ivrea.

Franco Tantillo, director of the facility, guided those present on a visit through its areas. “All the systems of the building have been redone – he explained -. The foodstuffs are stored in special cells from which they pass to rooms where they are prepared and then to others for cooking. We have created kitchens dedicated to special diets for food intolerance problems and we strictly keep the processing of meat, vegetables and cheeses separate from each other, just as cold and hot food always remain separate ». Tantillo showed the means used for transporting food in the courtyard: “We have five in service, all insulated, in accordance with the law and with hybrid engines with which we supply all the schools in Ivrea, which are about seventeen refectories, plus those of municipalities of Cigliano, Cascinette, Banchette and Lessolo ».

An absolutely important aspect of the new cooking center is the attention to the environment and sustainability. In this regard, Giovanni Repetto, responsible for education and social policies of the municipality of Ivrea, highlighted: «On the roof of this building, photovoltaic panels have been positioned which will also power the means of transport for delivery. Attention to the environmental problem was one of the rewarding values ​​in awarding the contract. Another aspect present in the specifications was the use of food products at zero kilometers which helps to reduce, in addition to emissions harmful to the environment, also costs while increasing local trade ».

Even the councilor for agriculture and environmental sustainability, Giuliano Balzola, focused on this peculiarity: “The choice to feed our young people with local products delivered by means of transport is a source of satisfaction for this administration sensitive to ecological issues. low emissions. These are all steps towards the pursuit of a common well-being, the result of attention and availability that are not taken for granted ».

“Being here today is the result of a reasoning that began over a year and a half ago – explained Giorgia Povolo, councilor for education systems and youth policies -. We strongly wanted the creation of an optimal cooking center. We would also have liked it to be owned by the Municipality, but unfortunately this route was not viable for organizational and also political reasons. However, what I see today exceeds our initial ambitions and for this I thank you for the quality and freshness of the food you prepare ». –
