PORCIA. An 85-year-old pensioner, resident of Porcia, was slightly intoxicated on the afternoon of Friday 26 August due to a burnt pot on the stove. To save her from worse consequences was the prompt intervention of her daughter-in-law, who lives in the same building.

The alarm in the regional operations room of the Palmanova emergency was raised around 3.30 pm. The firefighters arrived on the spot, with a team from Pordenone, and the 118 ambulance.

The old woman put the pot on the stove in the kitchen, then dozed off on the sofa in the living room, forgetting to turn off the gas. Thus, the pot began to overheat and burn.

The pensioner, however, had left the window open. The smoke thus began to invade the rooms but also to exit the window and rise. The daughter-in-law, who lives upstairs, noticed the smoke and rushed down the stairs to help the pensioner.

She entered her mother-in-law’s apartment, flooded with smoke, and found her still asleep on the sofa. Immediately he rescued her from her sleep, carried her out to safety, and called the fire brigade.

When the firefighters arrived they found no flames in the kitchen, only smoke. The contents of the overheated pan have burned, but without causing damage to the stove or kitchen cabinets. The firefighters verified that there were no potentially hazardous situations. Therefore, there is no problem of viability for the home.

The medical team of 118 came by ambulance to provide the first treatment for the elderly. The old woman breathed little smoke, thanks to the timely help of her daughter-in-law, and her conditions were not considered serious.
