Shen Zhou: The CCP army really wants to fight 1 against 3 in the Western Pacific? | Liaoning | Aircraft Carrier | F-35

[Epoch Times, May 23, 2022]The Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning crossed the Miyako Strait and entered the Pacific Ocean on May 1. After 21 days, it returned to the original route, sailing as far as the eastern waters of Taiwan, and twice arrived in the waters of Okinawa, Japan. The simulated attack on Taiwan is only a part of the Liaoning’s drill, and the U.S.-Japan Okinawa military base is the bigger focus. The CCP also dispatched H-6 bombers and other warships to cooperate intensively to conduct unprecedented drills on Okinawa. Does the CCP plan to attack US and Japanese military bases at the same time when launching the war in the Taiwan Strait?

After entering the Pacific Ocean, the Liaoning first arrived in the waters near Okinawa, Japan, and conducted carrier-based aircraft take-off and landing training. The Japanese Self-Defense Force’s Izumo helicopter frigate, reconnaissance aircraft and fighter jets followed closely and took clear pictures.

From May 6th to 12th, the Liaoning arrived in the eastern waters of Taiwan to conduct a simulated attack on Taiwan. The CCP Military Network also reported that from May 6th to 8th, the Eastern Theater Command organized naval, air, and constant guided troops to conduct actual military drills in the sea and airspace east and southwest of Taiwan Island.

On May 15, the Liaoning aircraft carrier came to the waters of Okinawa again and returned to sailing on May 21. The total time spent in the exercises in the waters off Okinawa, Japan, actually exceeded that in the eastern Taiwan Strait.

On May 18, 2022, the Chinese Communist Party’s H-6 bomber crossed the Miyako Strait from the East China Sea and entered the Pacific Ocean without escort by fighter jets. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force took clear pictures up close. (Japan Air Self-Defense Force)

On May 18, the CCP dispatched 2 H-6 bombers to cross the Miyako Strait from the East China Sea, and they were supposed to practice together with the Liaoning. Obviously, they flew a farther distance than the similar drills in the eastern Taiwan Strait.

On May 19, another Chinese supply ship, escorted by a destroyer and a frigate, crossed the Miyako Strait and was suspected of supplying the Liaoning aircraft carrier fleet for a second time. On the same day, a Chinese intelligence ship crossed the narrow waterway of the Osumi Strait and entered the East China Sea from the Pacific Ocean.

On May 18 and 19, the CCP’s H-6 bombers, the second supply fleet and intelligence ships, in conjunction with the Liaoning aircraft carrier fleet, were suspected to have conducted intensive exercises against Okinawa, Japan. (Japan Self-Defense Forces, Epoch Times Cartography)

Compared with the exercise of the Liaoning aircraft carrier in the hinterland of the Japanese archipelago in December 2021, this exercise was more clearly aimed at the Japanese military base in Okinawa, and more warships were used, and H-6 bombers were also dispatched, which should make up for the J-15. Shortcomings that cannot be attacked.

The CCP does not seem to care about exposing the true combat power of the Liaoning aircraft carrier. It was a big failure to dispatch during the Russian-Ukrainian war, but the CCP leaders should be eager to release political signals to the United States and Japan. This exercise is more like targeting US President Biden trip to Asia.

However, the Liaoning is a conventional power after all, and the huge fleet supply is unsustainable, and it has not been able to stick to the full itinerary of Biden’s visit to Japan. At the same time, the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier was officially deployed, and the Liaoning had to return after more than 20 days of travel. .

On May 20, 2022, the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) left Yokosuka, Japan, and officially began its deployment in 2022. The next day, on May 21, the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning returned from the Miyako Strait. (US Navy)

In the pictures released by the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, only 9 J-15s can be seen on the deck of the Liaoning at most, and they can only be mounted with PL-12 and PL-8 air-to-air missiles. It pales in comparison. Knowing its shortcomings, the CCP dispatched H-6 bombers to cross the Miyako Strait from the East China Sea and cooperated with the Liaoning for drills. If the CCP really starts to attack Okinawa, how can the Japanese Self-Defense Force make the H-6 bomber unmanned? The CCP’s take-for-granted drills have no practical value.

The CCP sent a second supply ship to simulate the continuous supply of the Liaoning fleet, but once the war started, the CCP fleet would have no chance to cross the Miyako Strait at all, and the supply ships and frigates would only be buried at the bottom of the sea. The fate of the Liaoning can be imagined. The Liaoning exercise is mainly aimed at the Okinawa base, and Japan will be more vigilant. Needless to say, the US military. Okinawa is the most important military base for the United States and Japan in the Western Pacific, and there is no room for loss.

The Okinawa base of the US military stationed in Japan and the US military base in Guam have always been the key to supporting Taiwan’s defense. (Japan 2021 Defense White Paper)

If the CCP attacks Okinawa when it attacks Taiwan, it will directly declare war on the United States, Japan and Taiwan. With the strength of the CCP’s army, the 1-on-3 war situation should quickly turn to one side, and it is estimated that it will not last nearly three months like the Russian-Ukrainian war.

The USS Lincoln (CVN-72) fleet is currently in the Philippine waters, the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) fleet has just been dispatched from Yokosuka, Japan, and the USS Tripoli (LHA7), the second American-class amphibious assault ship, has also arrived in Japan. , USS America (LHA6) amphibious assault ship stationed in Japan. The U.S. military’s latest two American-class amphibious assault ships are now deployed to Japan.

The amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli was fully loaded with 20 F-35B fighters in a light aircraft carrier test before leaving the US west coast. On May 20, the U.S. military announced that 32 F-35B fighter jets had been deployed to the 12th Marine Corps Air Group at Iwakuni, Japan.

The U.S. Seventh Fleet can deploy two aircraft carriers and at least one light aircraft carrier fleet at any time, and the Third Fleet can also send 1-2 aircraft carrier fleets to support it at any time. Japan’s Izumo helicopter carrier can become another backup offshore platform for F-35B fighters, and the CCP’s carrier-based aircraft will be eliminated in an instant; the CCP’s aircraft carrier fleet cannot withstand the precise air strikes of the F-35 fighters, nor can it withstand the United States, Japanese submarine torpedo or anti-ship missile attack.

The unprecedented comprehensive exercise of the Liaoning aircraft carrier should have more obvious political significance, but it will definitely bring the vigilance of the United States, Japan, Taiwan and more allies. The CCP has always been worried about being contained, but because of its frequent provocations and fierce confrontations, it can only make the containment more real.
