Work in progress for miles, furious transporters. Bernardi (Confartigianato): “Both tourists and businesses penalized”
TREVISO. Construction site A27: yesterday morning from Treviso Sud to Vittorio Veneto Nord there were six areas of “work in progress”, with motorists and truck drivers forced to narrow and jumps, in a crescendo of traffic and stress that falls at the worst moment of the year, that of the summer holidays. Never, in the past, had so many construction sites overlapped in a few kilometers, and if for the tourist it is only (so to speak) an extension of time, for those who transport goods it is an increase in costs. For both it is also a question of safety, because some narrowings and jumps of carriageway (perhaps near the junction, as in Conegliano), are at least “daring”. “We need to get rid of these inconveniences from the tolls” underlines Oscar Bernardi, president of Confartigianato, who also asks for a more rational planning of the works.
Old and new jobs
The maxi construction site at the height of the future graft of the Pedemontana into the A27, at the height of the former service station, has been a constant for several months now. We are between Treviso Nord and Conegliano, before the bridge over the Piave, and in both directions there is a narrowing of the carriageway: it passes from three to two lanes. A little further north, in the direction of Conegliano, work is also in progress on the Piave viaduct: yesterday morning those who proceeded south were diverted to the north carriageway, which in turn was reduced to two lanes. Minor construction sites also in Conegliano, on the interchange, and between Conegliano and Vittorio. Then we get to the works that anger tourists: those on the Monte Baldo tunnel in Vittorio Veneto, another carriageway change, another narrowing of the lane. In less than forty kilometers, six construction sites have been surveyed, the stretches of “free circulation” becoming shorter and shorter.
The reactions
The first to ask for a reduction in tolls until the number of construction sites is reduced was the parliamentarian Dario Bond. The new president of Confartigianato Marca Trevigiana, Oscar Bernardi, also spoke on the subject: «Time spent on the motorway is a cost for companies and for raw materials. There should be a reversal for the inconvenience suffered, because the transporters are in difficulty, and also the world of tourism. The construction sites could be cadenced at different times, leaving the slightly more crowded periods free. It is right to carry out the necessary works, but it must be remembered that in this period the traffic increases due to holidays, and deliveries to be completed before closing. It is also a question of safety. And then, even the inconveniences on infrastructures risk slowing down the economic recovery that is underway, while we would like to compete on the same conditions as other European countries ».
