The Housemartins disbanded in 1988. And promptly two of them, Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway, form another band, this time with a female voice as well. They are the Beautiful South, which remain active until 2007 with a stable popularity among lovers of British pop rock with soft music and always funny lyrics. Their first album, Welcome to the Beautiful South, came out in 1989. It begins with the #canzonedelgiorno, self-portrait of a songwriter who weaves love stories to find inspiration. Impossible not to love a piece with lines like “I love you until I run out of ink from my pen.”
