Sovramonte, works on the Pontet viaduct, hiccup traffic since Thursday

OVERWHELMING. On Thursday 30 September at 8.30 the Pontet viaduct on SR 50 del Grappa and Passo Rolle in the municipality of Sovramonte (Belluno) on the border with the province of Trento will be closed to traffic for urgent works.

It is one of the most worn bridges managed by Veneto Strade. The intervention is entirely financed by the Veneto Region for 3,400,000 euros and falls within the scope of Law 45 of 2017 relating to the adaptation of damaged bridges. The work has already been contracted to the Leon spa company in Belluno, which will open construction sites from Thursday.

“We have waited for the end of the summer season so as not to create inconvenience to users – says the General Manager of Veneto Strade Silvano Vernizzi – but now we have no alternatives to the total closure of the viaduct as it is necessary to fix an edge beam very worn by rain and other weather elements “. The period was also chosen to wait for the Suem helicopter rescue service to be operational to guarantee any emergency. As mentioned, the construction sites will open immediately but as they cannot operate at night, two shifts (16 hours) have been set up in order to speed up the conclusion of the works.

To guarantee the connections, a temporary one-way alternating detour system is provided on site, regulated by a traffic light system. We will try, throughout the period of closure of the viaduct, to facilitate the practicability of the alternative itinerary, from Veneto to Primiero, through Passo Cereda.

“It is clear that queues can be created – adds Vernizzi – and for this we apologize in advance to the citizens but really we could no longer wait even for the safety of those passing through. The duration of the works will depend a lot on the weather conditions as we are heading towards the winter season. I repeat we will do everything and the company knows that it must do the impossible to reopen the viaduct as soon as possible “.
