The carabiniere had been vaccinated on 4 March. Udine hospital: there is no connection between death and injection

CASSACCO. A 46-year-old man, Major Marshal Emanuele Calligaris, a carabiniere in the command of the Carabinieri Legion of Friuli Venezia Giulia in Udine, died in the late afternoon yesterday, in the intensive care unit of the Santa Maria della Misericordia hospital in Udine, for a brain hemorrhage.

On March 4, the 46-year-old received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, the administration of which was also interrupted in Italy, as a precaution, pending a new verification by the European Medicines Agency. Emanuele Calligaris, in the night between Monday and Tuesday, felt ill and was rushed to the emergency room.

The Friuli Centrale university healthcare company, in a note, explains that the forty-six-year-old “had been hospitalized for impaired neurological status and a cerebral CT scan had shown a particularly extensive cerebral hemorrhage”. The note continues: «The patient was admitted to intensive care, intubated and subjected to intensive treatment. Cerebral haemorrhage is unfortunately a fairly frequent occurrence in patients who are hospitalized in intensive care. Also in recent days there have been other deaths of patients suffering from the same pathology ». The company confirms that Calligaris was vaccinated on March 4 with the AstraZeneca vaccine. “On the basis of the information in the possession of the clinicians – writes the company -, at present nothing can be said about a possible causal link between the two events”.

Emanuele Calligaris, who lived with his family in Montegnacco di Cassacco, not far from his parents, leaves his wife Adrien, an 8-year-old son, his sister Lara, who has a grocery store in Cassacco, his father Olinto and his mother Giuseppina . A great mountain lover, sporty and dynamic, Calligaris is remembered by colleagues and friends as a reserved person and always available to help others.

The mayor of Cassacco, Ornella Baiutti, says she is saddened. «Emanuele was a very discreet and humble man. A beautiful family, hers. He adored his wife and son, who sadly lose a good dad and loving husband. Our community is very shaken by what happened. In the village we talk about nothing else. The family is well known and respected. A tragedy”.
