Summer time change October 2021: the hands one hour back tonight

by admin

Solar time returns. On the night between Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 October, the hands will have to be moved back one hour. The time change starts at 3 am but obviously the electronic devices connected to the internet update automatically, while for wrist or wall watches it will be necessary to intervene by hand.

The solar time will remain in effect until March 27, 2022, when we will return to move the hands forward again.

Between Saturday and Sunday we will therefore sleep an extra hour. But from then on the days will appear “shorter” because we will lose an hour of light in the afternoon. On the other hand, the transition to solar time will give an hour of extra light in the morning to those who have an early alarm.

Just sixty minutes which, however, also have an effect on our psycho-physical well-being, causing in many people tiredness, difficulty concentrating, moodiness.

Abolish the exchange or not?

A little more than 3 years ago, between July and August 2018, the proposal to abolish the time change was made: almost 5 million citizens of the European Union responded to a consultation, promoted by Northern European countries, headed by Poland and Finland: 84% of the voters expressed themselves in favor. In the discussion that followed the European Commission, however, a single decision was not reached that would satisfy all member countries. At the moment Italy has not yet taken a position, unlike France, which decided, after a popular consultation called by the National Assembly, to ban the time change forever.
