Summit of the center-right: “Compact for the election of the President of the Republic”

by admin

The center-right tries to restart after an administrative vote that has seen him come out defeated in the main challenges (from Rome to Naples, passing through Turin). It does so with a summit in Rome between the three coalition leaders Matteo Salvini, Giorgia Meloni and Silvio Berlusconi and concluded with the commitment made in a note to hold “periodic meetings – on a weekly basis – to agree on shared parliamentary actions”. And looking to the next, decisive appointment: the choice of Sergio Mattarella’s successor. “The center-right – reads the joint note issued at the end of the meeting that took place in Berlusconi’s residence on the Via Appia – intends to move compactly and in time to prepare the next electoral and political appointments, with particular attention to the election of the next President of the Republic”.

Salvini: center-right will demonstrate unity already with the budget law

Purpose of compactness reiterated by Salvini to reporters outside the Senate: «The lesson of the administrative has served us, both the defeat in the large municipalities and the record abstention. A divided and quarrelsome center-right distances trust and Italians and therefore we have the duty to work together and we must demonstrate the first act of compactness in the coming weeks with the budget law ». The secretary of the League explained: “My hope and my goal is to go jointly to Draghi both those who are in the majority and those in the opposition to bring the demands of the center-right on tax cuts and have a courageous maneuver that still puts plus billions on tax cuts, on electricity and gas bills, for those who hire workers, to avoid illegal work and to keep the flat tax alive ”.

When asked about his party’s possible support for the request for resignation of the Minister of the Interior, made several times by the Brothers of Italy, Salvini replied: “We will talk about everything and we will choose everything together, we have not talked about this today”. The former Minister of the Interior made it clear that in the center-right summit there was no mention of positions on the no vax, on the green pass or of leadership in the center-right. And he concluded: “We talked about maneuvering and tax cuts”, reiterating that “the Italians who stayed at home have given us a signal that we take with extreme seriousness and attention”.
