SORTINO (Syracuse) – A roar woke up Sortino in the middle of the night, a large town in the province of Syracuse: a house exploded, probably due to a gas leak, and a 56-year-old man lost his life. The sister was pulled alive from the rubble and is now hospitalized.
The explosion occurred in a two-storey building in via Carlentini. According to an initial reconstruction of the story, it is a gas leak that would have caused the explosion and fire of the house where Vincenzo Failla, a forest worker, and his sister who lived in the same house were staying.
Syracuse firefighters intervened on the spot and extracted the victim’s body from the rubble. His sister, still alive, was transferred to the Umberto I hospital in Syracuse. The Carabinieri of the Sortino station are investigating the tragic accident and are trying to identify the causes and responsibilities of the explosion. The Syracuse prosecutor’s office opened an investigation and ordered the seizure of the semi-destroyed building.
