In the early morning of June 10, in a barbecue restaurant on Airport Road, Tangshan, Hebei, a man approached a woman who was eating. After being rejected, he became furious and violently beat the woman and her friends. After that, several men joined the beating, killing four people. Women were injured, two of them seriously. After the surveillance video was exposed on the Internet, it caused outrage.
After the incident, one of the attackers, Cao Jianhua (Director of Dongmazhuang Village, Yinchengpu Town, Fengrun District, Tangshan), and Zhao Jinjin, the deputy mayor of Tangshan and the director of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, participated in the dinner. On April 29, 2020, Zhang He, former member of the Standing Committee of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee and vice governor, was investigated. He served in the Tangshan officialdom for 37 years and served as the mayor and secretary of Tangshan City.
On April 12 this year, Hu Guohui, chairman of the Tangshan CPPCC, was investigated. Hu Guohui has been in Tangshan for 31 years. On February 17, Wang Jiuzong, a former inspector of the Hebei Provincial Development and Reform Commission, was investigated. Wang is Hu Guohui’s predecessor and has been in Tangshan for nearly 40 years.

Current affairs commentator Li Linyi believes that Tangshan’s officialdom is chaotic, and the collusion between the political and legal system and the underworld is conceivable. On August 2, 2021, Xu Zhenxia, a former deputy inspector of the Hebei Provincial Public Security Department, was sacked. Judging from his resume, he has been immersed in the Shijiazhuang public security system for nearly 40 years, and has served as deputy director of the Shijiazhuang Municipal Public Security Bureau and deputy secretary of the party committee.

On September 7, 2021, Liu Jianhua, Secretary of the Party Committee and Warden of Shijiazhuang Prison in Hebei Province, was investigated.
The article said that the details of Liu Jianhua’s involvement in the case have not yet been announced, but from the CCP’s official reports on the cases of all the fallen prison directors in recent years, they acted as “protective umbrellas” for underworld personnel and reduced their sentences for violations of laws and regulations.
