IVREA. Once again San Savino saw the composition, in Ivrea, of a large and colorful fresco of the Italian province with intact all the elements of a proud recovery of the culture and tradition of a modern country that looks to the future – in the words of Carlo Levi – with an ancient heart. All this, in fact, was the Ivrea patronal feast in its curious intertwining of sacred and profane, of rites, ceremonies and appointments, and this was above all the solemn procession in honor of Savino, with the band, the carriage with the relics , the bishop, the priests, the authorities, the priors and the flags carried high by the Alfieri. A beautiful morning, that of yesterday, Thursday 7, lived with great participation and intensity by the people. The priors, Grace Grava Pavia for San Grato, Alessia Ferrero Aprato for Bellavista, Paolo Bardessono for San Lorenzo, Sunday Vittonatti Ferro for San Bernardo e Nicolò Castello for Torre Balfredo, each holding the candle adorned with the ribbon in the colors of the city, they walked alongside the carriage escorting the urn with the relics that some members of Unuci (National Union of officers on leave of Italy) -Section of Ivrea and Canavese , an association that groups the officers on leave of the Italian armed forces, currently chaired by Lieutenant Daniele Bravo, have supported, in Piazza di Città, from the church of Sant’Ulderico to the carriage, and in Piazza del Duomo, from the carriage to the presbytery. Then, the mass, at the opening of which the bishop Edoardo Aldo Cerrato, after greeting all present, clergy and faithful, addressed a heartfelt thanks to Monsignor Roberto Farinella, Bishop of Biella, always in the heart of the Ivrea people, and to Monsignor Lorenzo Piretto , Metropolitan Archbishop Emeritus of Smyrna, Turkey, for their welcome presence. “His Excellency Piretto – Monsignor Cerrato recalled – is our countryman, born in Tonengo di Mazzè and for this reason many know him, but today we welcome him as well as our fellow countryman, as guide of the archdiocese that extends its jurisdiction over the Catholic faithful of Latin rite, residing in the provinces of south-western Anatolia, the region where the seven Churches of the Apocalypse are located, or the seven Christian communities mentioned by John the Apostle. We welcome his excellence as successor of the first bishop of Smyrna, St. Polycarp, who was a disciple of John the apostle and testified to Christ and faith in him until his martyrdom in 155 ».

The bishop of Ivrea then also addressed public thanks to Giovanni Gianotti who, for over twenty years, has been carrying the urn with the relics on his pram boat at the helm of which yesterday, he was joined by his daughter Giuseppina, impeccable like him. A thought also went to Monsignor Arrigo Miglio who, the bishop emphasized, «on 27 August he will be created cardinal of the Holy Roman Church by His Holiness Francis. The appointment of him, which brings to three the living cardinals from the Diocese of the Ivory Coast, has made us very happy. In September we will officially welcome him in Ivrea for the homage of the entire diocese ». The morning of Thursday 7 was therefore very successful, summed up, again this year, in the fresh simplicity of a moment experienced by people with great anticipation, unchanged pleasure and large participation, but the religious aspect of the patronal feast had already come to life. the day before, in the church of San Nicola da Tolentino, where the official presentation of the Priors took place, to whom the predecessors had delivered the candles to symbolize the continuing tradition.
