It will be placed next to the current one, rendered unusable by Vaia. Cost: 800 thousand euros. Residents intrigued by the transport

COMELICO SUPERIORE. The bailey bridge, called to guarantee the viability in the suburb of Sopalù, arrives from none other than Baltimore: it will be mounted alongside the existing one, made unusable since the times of Vaia, to allow its replacement operations.

The arrival of the bailey drew the attention of just eight residents of the township, who found themselves in front of, somewhat surprisingly, a truck of exceptional dimensions used for transporting the steel structure that will be assembled and put into place in a few days. in operation with the aim of guaranteeing local traffic in a stretch where the fury of Vaia made all the bridges that run over the Padola stream along the Gera – Sopalù municipal road unusable.

The works, currently in progress, have seen an important amount invested, about 800 thousand euros. The bailey bridge arrives in Sopalu after departing from the port of Baltimore, in the United States. It is called “Beam bridge” and was built by Acrow Bridge which is based in Milton, Pennsylvania. The works to start involve the longest bridge among those made unusable by Vaia, 32 meters of light, and destined to be replaced by a completely new one at the end of the operation.

“The bailey bridge will guarantee daily life and safety in the township”, explained the mayor of Comelico Superiore, Marco Staunovo Polacco, “it will in fact serve not only the residents but also the emergency vehicles”.

Due to the particular morphology of the valley, the interventions in progress are anything but easy. It is no coincidence that the company chosen for the intervention comes from the other side of the world.

«The company called into question produces a very slender type of bailey bridge, despite its size», explain the designers, «faithfully retraces the typical characteristics of military constructions. The Acrow company is considered one of the world leaders. The bridge develops entirely on the road surface with some components that act as a guardrail. Due to its particular technical conformation, it will be assembled in a few days, three or four at the most ».

The structure arrived from Baltimore to the port of Genoa by ship and was then transported with a truck to Comelico.

The definitive bridge will also be born in the States, produced by the same company. It will also arrive with a ship that will land in Livorno and it too will require a few days of work before being made available to the village of Sopalù. Given the exceptional nature of the intervention, the Municipality of Comelico Superiore is also thinking of a small inauguration ceremony. The Cadore Asfalti company is also at the forefront of the works.
