The bus saves 7 minutes. But for Germana and Franca, going shopping like this is an eleven-hour odyssey

The sisters (83 and 81 years old) live in the hamlet of Ren, above Lambroi. To go to Agordo they have to leave at 7 am and return at 5.50 pm

HISTORY

There is a film called “7 minutes”, that is, those that a company wants to take away from the lunch break of some workers who have seen their rights eroded over time. A little more than seven minutes are also those that a bus takes from Tiser to Lambroi, in the municipality of Gosaldo. A time that affects the right of citizenship of the sisters Germana and Franca Ren (83 and 81 years old).

They live in Ren, a hamlet of the municipality of Gosaldo along the Mis Valley where there are no shops and services of any kind. Germana lives here during the summer months, Franca all year round. If they want to go shopping or access some services (hospital, pharmacies, doctor, post office) they must go to Agordo or Rivamonte.

But Germana and Franca don’t have a car and the children are far away. The only way to get to the centers is to get on a bus. Simple. They are ready at 7 at the Lambroi-Baita stop and at 7.35 they are in Agordo. They do everything they have to do and then go to the bus station to go home.

But if they intend to rely solely on the DolomitiBus courier in Lambroi, they will arrive at 5.50pm. To remain “a pendolón”, as they say in these parts to define the condition of those who hang around waiting for something to happen, for almost eleven hours under the sun at over eighty is not nice. Germana and Franca were lucky on Wednesday. They arrived home shortly after 3 pm thanks to a local young man.

«We hadn’t been shopping for fifteen days», says Germana, who arrived for the summer from Como, «and so Wednesday, market day in Agordo, we got on the bus at 7, we went to Agordo and then at 13. 10 we took the bus that goes up and which, however, ends in Tiser ».

The problem is right here. With the summer timetable, two Lambroi-Agordo races have been established (departing at 7 am and, excluding Saturdays, at 5.50 pm) and only one between Agordo-Lambroi (starting at 5.15 pm excluding Saturdays).

The others, including the Wednesday one, only move between Agordo and Tiser which is just 3.7 kilometers from Lambroi. Just over seven minutes. “Luckily, on Wednesday, Alfredo passed through Tiser and gave us a lift”, they say, “we asked our nephew who, however, works in Lentiai and ends up late”. Will it be like this all summer? This is the question of the two sisters, who will soon be joined by another friend arriving from Switzerland. Until a few years ago there was Marcello Paganin who loaded them in the car and took them to Agordo.

«He has always been very kind», they say, «but the years pass for him too and between one thing and the other he no longer succeeds». Germana and Franca, however, ask that the public service (if it is still such) respond to their legitimate needs.

«My doctor is in Agordo», Franca explains, «and my son is with his family in Ortisei. What do I do if I have to go for a visit or to make a recipe? ». «We are now of a certain age», Germana concludes, «and it is not easy to go to Agordo and think of staying down for a day with shopping bags and with the warm weather.to go home. Why don’t they extend a run from Tiser to Lambroi? ‘
