On January 10, Li Bei, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security of the Communist Party of China, said at a press conference again that the Ministry of Public Security of the Communist Party of China regards the elimination of the influence of Sun Lijun and others as a “major political task”, and focuses on key departments where Sun Lijun and others have been in charge or involved a lot. Multiple rounds of supervision and inspection have been carried out in the field, and people, events and cases involving serious violations of discipline and law by Sun Lijun and others have been comprehensively cleaned up.
Li Bei also said that the Ministry of Public Security should make clearing the influence of Sun Lijun and others a “top priority” in order to eliminate “political hidden dangers” and punish “black sheep”.
On September 30 last year, when Sun Lijun was double-opened, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection issued an unusually severe circular, saying that he: “extremely inflated political ambitions, arrogantly discussing the major policies of the Party Central Committee”; Forming factions and cultivating personal power”; “Forming interest groups, forming groups to control key departments, seriously undermining the unity and unity of the party, and seriously endangering political security”; and so on.
Time critic Yokogawa believes that the charges imposed on Sun Lijun by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection are all of the “treason” type, and it is very rare for the CCP to put many charges on one person, which shows how serious the situation is.
According to Yokogawa’s analysis, the most intolerable thing for CCP leaders is the existence of organized opposition groups at the top of the party. The reason why Xi Jinping wants to eliminate Sun Lijun’s “toxicity” is that he knows that “rebellion” is not just Sun Lijun committing the crime alone, but a “vital department”—many people from the Ministry of Public Security are “ganged up”.
In addition, a person familiar with the CCP previously revealed that Sun Lijun is a member of Jiang’s army, and his position is a threat to Xi Jinping, which can make Xi’s life unsafe. At that time, the first bureau of the Ministry of Public Security, which was in charge of Sun Lijun, was the domestic security and political security bureau of the CCP. The bureau’s power is even greater than that of the National Security Bureau. It not only controls intelligence collection and ethnic and religious affairs in China, but also controls pro-CCP, spies, spies and other organizations abroad. Therefore, winning Sun Lijun means Xi Jinping is in control of the situation.
Since Sun Lijun was double-fed last year, Fu Zhenghua, the former Minister of Justice of the Communist Party of China, has also been investigated. Xi Jinping then launched several rounds of major purges against the political and legal system. Under Xi Jinping’s “20-year retrospective investigation” policy, a large number of retired senior political and legal officials have also been sacked, and the total number of sacked officials has reached hundreds of thousands.
For example, Wang Like, a follower of the Jiang faction and former secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Political and Legal Committee, was expelled from the party and public office on September 22 last year, and was subsequently formally arrested on economic charges. At the same time, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced that it would continue to purge Wang Like’s “gangs”.
On the surface, Xi Jinping is cleaning up the political and legal system, but in fact he is further cleaning up Jiang Zemin’s henchmen. He said: “Jiang faction bosses Jiang Zemin, Zeng Qinghong and others do not trust Xi Jinping, and their attempts to dethrone Xi have never stopped… The grievances between Xi Jinping and the Jiang faction can no longer be reconciled.”
