The Central Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow warning for a cold wave affecting large parts of China. The warning comes as temperatures are expected to drop significantly in various regions of the country. According to the Observatory, the cumulative temperature drop in some areas could reach more than 20℃.

The warning, issued at 18:00 on February 16, also includes a blue warning for strong winds and a blue warning for sandstorm. The severe cooling is expected to affect most areas from west to east and from north to south.

The cold wave yellow warning is expected to bring about severe cooling from February 16 to 22, with temperatures dropping by 8 to 12°C in most areas. However, in some regions, such as Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and parts of North China, the temperature drop could reach 12 to 18°C. In specific areas of northern Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, northeastern regions, Hubei, and Hunan, the cumulative temperature drop may exceed 20℃.

The Central Meteorological Observatory also advises people to take precautionary measures such as adding warm clothing, especially for the elderly, weak, and sick individuals, protecting livestock, and poultry, and taking precautions against strong winds.

In addition to the cold wave warning, a blue warning for strong winds has been issued, with gusts reaching level 12 in some areas. The Observatory urges ships operating in affected sea areas to pay attention to navigation safety, while fire prevention departments in forests, grasslands, and urban areas should be prepared for fire prevention.

Affected by cold air and strong winds, a blue sandstorm warning has also been issued for some areas, with local sandstorms expected in several regions. The Observatory advises residents to close doors and windows, use dust-proof supplies, and tighten structures that are easily affected by sandstorms.
