Two books published by Luiss University Press address as many major issues that today’s society has to deal with. The economist Francesco Farina proposes in his The welfare state equality of opportunities as a fundamental hub for the rebirth of social policies aimed at defending citizens and their living conditions: strengthening public services, health and education, protecting the planet and strengthening welfare are essential preconditions for a stable and fair growth. Farina will present his book on 3 October at the Ridotto of the Teatro Comunale, with Alessandro Lubello of Internazionale.
Anthropologist Veronica Barassi will instead explain the concerns at the center of the book The children of the algorithm. Supervised, tracked and profiled from birth. There are more and more aspects of daily life mediated by digital technologies, which are assuming a power of control over everyone. The new generations, especially minors, are the most exposed, because the data concerning them begin to be collected even before birth, raising ethical, moral, legislative and cultural questions. Barassi will talk about it on 2 October at the Ridotto of the Municipal Theater with Claudio Rossi Marcelli.
