“Through many days of commissioning, the cloud physical gradient observation test site at the southern foot of the Qilian Mountain was officially completed.” Han Huibang, a senior engineer at the Qinghai Provincial Meteorological Disaster Prevention Technology Center, said to the public on the morning of the 23rd.

Qilian Mountain is an important ecological security barrier in western China and an important water source and runoff area in the Yellow River Basin. The landforms here cover mountains, glaciers, forests, grasslands, etc., with an altitude of 2,000 to 5,000 meters. It is a priority area for biodiversity conservation in China.

According to Han Huibang, the observation and test site is located in the Hulugou Valley, Qilian County, Qinghai Province, in the hinterland of the southern foot of the Qilian Mountains. It is also the location of the “Eleven Glaciers” in the Qilian Mountains. Mode, can measure the turbulent pulsation of horizontal and vertical wind in real time, output three-dimensional orthogonal wind speed and ultrasonic temperature, and the maximum output frequency can be as high as 100 Hz. At the same time, in conjunction with the observation of atmospheric temperature, humidity, air pressure, and rainfall, a total of 5 gradient observation points were arranged in the altitude range of 3000 to 4200 meters above the southern foot of the Qilian Mountains.

“After the observation site is put into operation, it can effectively monitor the real-time high-frequency three-dimensional wind field, temperature, humidity, and rainfall changes in the basin, and grasp the characteristics of atmospheric wind field and thermal field changes. The research on key human shadow technologies such as rain enhancement operation efficiency provides data support to further improve the level of human shadow observation and experiment in Qilian Mountains, and enhance human shadow technology support capabilities.” Han Huibang said.

Han Huibang said that the gradient observation field is an important part of the construction of the artificial weather modification observation test site in the Qilian Mountains. Since the Qinghai Meteorological Disaster Prevention Technology Center started the construction of the artificial image weather observation test system in 2019, it has not only improved the weather modification observation test technology The level of application in the fields of ecological restoration and disaster prevention and mitigation has also gradually formed the observation and test capabilities that can support the study of plateau atmospheric physics.
