Wang Junjie, deputy director of the Xinmi City Development and Reform Commission, was washed away by the floods. His body was found on July 22. In addition, a female highway worker in Xinmi City was also killed in the flood.
According to Wang Junjie’s relative, Ms. Zhang, told The Paper that at around 7pm on July 20, 47-year-old Wang Junjie and his colleagues went to the local disaster area to check the granary. On the way, they were flooded and the four were dispersed.
At about 11 o’clock that night, Wang Junjie lost contact near the Xiangzhang River in Dayi Town, Xinmi City. His family immediately sought help from the local government and rescue team, but the rescue has not made progress.
Ms. Zhang said that Wang Junjie’s three colleagues were rescued near the Xiangzhang community on the evening of the 20th and the morning of the 21st.
Between 4pm and 5pm on July 22, Wang Junjie’s body was found.
Ms. Zhang said, “He went to see if there was any problem with the nearby granary, but when he returned, the flood broke the road. He detoured repeatedly, and finally circumvented to the place of the accident.”
On July 20, Bai Xiaoping, deputy chief of the Maintenance Section of Xinmi City Highway Development Center, was also washed away by the flood.
According to a report from China Communications News on the 22nd, Bai Xiaoping, 49, went to the Zhengdeng Expressway to collect disaster information on the same day. He encountered a torrential rainstorm on the Xiazhuang River and was washed away by floods.
At about 19:30 that night, Bai Xiaoping was found by rescuers and sent to a doctor for rescue. After rescue, he died.
In addition, on the morning of the 20th, Zhao Jianbiao, director of the Meteorological Bureau of Gongyi City, Henan Province, went to the municipal government to report on meteorological work. On the way back, he was washed away by floods. He was rescued that afternoon and returned home safely.
Henan was hit by heavy rains on the 20th, and disasters occurred in many places, especially Zhengzhou City suffered serious waterlogging, the subway was flooded, and the Zhengzhou “Jingguang Road Tunnel” was completely submerged. It is difficult to estimate the number of people who died in the tunnel.
Officials reported on the 22nd that the number of people killed in Zhengzhou increased to 33, and 8 people were missing, of which 12 died on Zhengzhou Metro Line 5.
However, the official death toll has been widely questioned by the outside world, and the real figure may be far higher than the official figure.
According to various sources, the tragic flood disaster in Zhengzhou was related to the unwarned flood discharge of the nearby Changzhuang Reservoir.
