The 8th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress concluded in Beijing with a significant decision being made. The meeting voted to pass the newly revised Law on the Protection of State Secrets. President Xi Jinping signed Presidential Order No. 20 and announced it, marking an important milestone in national security and confidentiality measures.

Chairman Zhao Leji presided over the closing meeting, which was attended by 165 members of the Standing Committee, meeting the quorum requirement for decision-making. In addition to passing the law on state secrets, the meeting also approved the draft work report of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee and made recommendations for the upcoming Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress.

Various appointments, dismissals, and approvals were made during the meeting, including the approval of the agenda and list of attendees for the upcoming Second Session of the 14th National People’s Congress. Vice Chairmen and other high-ranking officials were also present at the meeting, emphasizing the importance of the decisions being made.

Following the conclusion of the meeting, a special lecture was held on “Chinese-Style Modernization and the Rule of Law,” highlighting the government’s commitment to progress and legal governance. The meeting and subsequent lecture showcased the dedication of the Standing Committee to upholding national security and promoting the rule of law in the country.
