The electrification of the line allows you to travel the entire Venice Belluno section with new generation vehicles, without having to change to diesel vehicles as was the case until now.
CONEGLIANO. Inauguration of the new Conegliano-Vittorio Veneto-Belluno electrified line: the electrification works conducted by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana will allow, starting from the new railway timetable, in effect from tomorrow 13 June, to connect Venice to Belluno with a direct connection with a train electric traction. About fifteen such races a day.
The work was presented today during the “Venice and the closest Dolomites” event, in the presence of the President of the Region Luca Zaia, the Minister for Relations with Parliament Federico D’Incà, the president of RFI Anna Masutti and the director of the Regional Transport Division of Trenitalia Sabrina De Filippis.
The 47 km of electrified line will allow a significant reduction of travel times, also thanks to the possibility of covering the entire route between Venice and Belluno on a single train, without having to change in Conegliano with a diesel-powered train. Furthermore, the electric traction trains have higher performances than the previous ones diesel vehicles and will therefore be able to fully exploit the potential of the line, reaching the maximum speed allowed with greater ease and, by virtue of the best acceleration starting point, expanding the recovery margins of any delays.
The electrified line will bring environmental benefits deriving from the elimination of diesel traction, in line with the strategy of RFI and the FS Group for the sustainable development of the country and its mobility system.
The investment for the electrification of the line was 55 million euro and is part of RFI’s overall electrification program for the lines in the Veneto basin and the Belluno ring for a value of over 200 million. The work has a strategic value also in view of the Winter Olympics Milan – Cortina 2026.
To make the line even more modern and technological is added the installation of the Train Running Control System (SCMT), the security system which supports drivers in driving and improves the reliability of the railway infrastructure. In addition, three level crossings in the Conegliano-Vittorio Veneto section have been eliminated and the Fadalto and Santa Croce tunnels have been adapted to European standards. Finally, to facilitate crossings in the stations, interventions were carried out on the platforms in the stations of Belluno and Vittorio Veneto.
In detail, there are 13 connections from Belluno to Venice, of which eight without changes with a saving of 12 minutes and five with change in Conegliano. There will also be seven direct connections from Venice to Belluno and six with change in Conegliano.
Slight changes are expected on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
The new direct connections Venice – Belluno and vice versa will be carried out almost exclusively with the new Pop electric trains with over 300 seats and up to 230 seats in piedthe. The Pop is up to 97% recyclable and consumes 30% less energy than previous trains. These trains are equipped with electric sockets, with six bike spaces each and sockets for charging electric bikes.
