On August 28, the Daning Reservoir, located in the middle route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in Beijing, opened its gates. In 2017, the Haihe Water Conservancy Commission began to implement the Yongding River’s multi-source allocation and the unified regulation of ecological water. Ecological restoration and rectification of 581 kilometers of river courses basically opened up the ecological passage in the upper reaches of the Guanting Reservoir, creating conditions for the entire Yongding River to pass water.
The Yongding River is one of the important water systems in the Haihe River Basin. Since the late 1970s, the ecology of the basin has degraded and the river has dried up. Restoring the Yongding River to a “flowing river” has become the primary goal of the new round of comprehensive management and ecological restoration of the Yongding River.
In December 2018, the Haihe River Water Conservancy Commission, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei Province, Shanxi Province Water Conservancy (Agency) Department (Bureau), and Yongding River Basin Investment Co., Ltd. jointly signed the “Yongding River Ecological Water Guarantee Cooperation Agreement” to promote water volume in the basin Dispatching is developing in the direction of contractualization, standardization and order.
Through ecological water regulation, the river length of the main stream of Yongding River has increased significantly.
