TREVISO. The Treviso Guardia di Finanza seized 5,000 liters of wine and over a ton of sugar as part of the ‘Opson X’ operation, coordinated by the international police cooperation bodies Interpol and Europol and dedicated to combating the phenomena of counterfeiting and illicit marketing of food products.

The initiative saw the participation of 72 countries, of which 26 EU Member States, and was supported by the European Anti-Fraud Office (Olaf), the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety of the European Commission and the Office of the EU for Intellectual Property (EUIPO).

During a first intervention, the financiers of Conegliano stopped a truck in Codognè carrying 396 bottles of white wine, without a label or indication of origin, sent by a winery in the area and destined for sale in Turin.

The control was then extended to the sending company where another 3,500 liters of bottled wine and over a ton of sugar were seized, which did not comply with sector regulations.

During a second intervention, the financiers stopped a truck with 984 bottles of white wine passed off as prosecco, sent to a citizen of Valdobbiadene from a Belluno farm where another 1,185 liters of prosecco were seized.
