CORTINA. The Cortina party mixes with the fatigue of the approximately 3800 trail runners in the long weekend of the “Lavaredo Ultra trail” which recorded the return of foreigners to the Ampezzo valley after the long period of embargo due to Covid. Applause, smiles and colors punctuated by a reassuring sun: Cortina is back to breathe an air of normality thanks to the first major international sporting event that actually raised the curtain on the summer season.

Athletes from 50 nations

The athletes enrolled in the “Lavaredo Ultra trail” came from fifty countries, by right considered the most important trail running event in Italy. The distance of 120 kilometers recorded the victory of a German, Hannes Namberger, and a Frenchwoman, Camille Bruyas; but it was Cortina above all to celebrate, full of people as it has not been seen for a long time for the happiness of hoteliers and restaurateurs who, after a long period of thinness, have returned to fill the rooms and tables of their exercises.

“The Lavaredo Ultra Trail, as regards the induced it generates, can be considered more important than the major ski events such as the world cup stages but also the recent world ski championships”, underlined the mayor Ghedina, collecting the moods ofin the categories, demonstrating how much the return of trail runners in the shadow of the bell tower was expected. A breath of fresh air for the speakers, which remained dry throughout the winter, and a breath of confidence and optimism in view of the summer even if, from tomorrow, the effects of the “Lavaredo Ultra trail” on the tourist summer will become a sweet memory.

Hotels, extraordinary opening

“Many hotels, especially those in the center, have decided to open just this weekend, to coincide with the race, in the awareness of the benefits they would have drawn from it”, underlined the president of the Cortina hoteliers association, Roberta Alverà, “are were days of intense work, even if not sold out. We are happy to have found in our hotels the foreigners who have been missing for too long. There are many positive elements, which will surely help the structures to approach summer with a different spirit, certainly better; even if it is good to add that, having greeted the weekend of festivities and sports, from Monday we will return to being few. June cannot withstand the tourist flows of July and especially August but events such as the “Lavaredo Ultra trail” are welcome because they help to seasonally adjust the number of visitors; which, especially in these times, becomes a fundamental element for an entrepreneur operating in hospitality ».

The station

Victory with record in the men’s race: Hannes Namberger set the new time limit by stopping the clock at 12h02’12 ”.
