The long-abandoned structure was devastated by a fire that broke out on Friday. The causes are still uncertain
VALTOURNENCHE. The investigations by firefighters and carabinieri on the causes of the fire that destroyed the “Casa del bob” in Breuil Cervinia, in Valtournenche, are continuing. The flames yesterday devoured the building for several hours before the firefighters, supported by the helicopter, managed to extinguish all the outbreaks. The remediation operations could only begin this morning.
The structure, owned by the Municipality, had been unused for some time. As with buildings that are no longer occupied, it could happen that someone sneaked inside to take a tour, browse, and spend time. Perhaps someone who entered the structure could have lit a fire and left without having extinguished it, involuntarily giving rise to the fire that devastated it. However, it is not excluded that it was an intentional gesture. On the other hand, it is difficult to imagine an accidental event of another nature also because the building is without electricity.
The “Casa del bob” took its name from the nearby bobsleigh run of the Blue Lake built in the 1960s which became famous over the years. At the time it hosted the athletes and teams involved in competitions. At the beginning of the nineties, with the closure of the track, the “House” was also abandoned.
