The impetus of Treviso families: “Ready to host children”

by admin

First emails from Treviso of this tenor arrived on the prefecture’s table. Capillary survey of spaces and availability throughout the brand

TREVISO. “We are ready to open our home and welcome Afghan children and teenagers under our roof.”

A handful of emails of this nature have arrived in the Treviso prefecture in the last few hours. Therefore, it is not only the categories that move – Assindustria VenetoCentro was the first, directly contacting the Italian government and embassy in Kabul to make itself available to those who had collaborated with the West and the military forces – the world of volunteering, Catholic associations and the trade union world.

The first spontaneous impulses of families arrive, to reaffirm the great generous soul of a Brand, in the face of the tragedy that the Afghan people are experiencing. And in particular they are declarations of willingness to host children and young people, the most defenseless, fleeing the horror of that country after the coming to power of the Taliban.

The preliminary program prepared by the Prefectures, led by the prefect Maria Rosaria Laganà, on the basis of ministerial indications, does not contemplate this level, nor this home reception of migrants who will arrive from Kabul and the rest of the country, both by airlift and by future land arrivals; but in Piazza dei Signori, waiting to see how the reception plan will develop, they still want to underline the value of this momentum.

It is not excluded that other messages will arrive shortly – some families of parents are also active – while there is also talk of the construction, in the Treviso area, of a capillary network of mentoring, that is, of families that, although not hosting refugees directly, want to collaborate, offering themselves to give help and support with Italian language and orientation courses to help refugees integrate as quickly as possible into the Italian reality.

THE MACHINE STARTS

If the apparatus has already been on alert since last week, it is likely that today the welcome machine will also take off in Treviso. In Venice, the summit of all the Venetian prefects is scheduled, coordinated by the prefect of Venice, Vittorio Zappalorto, who will address the preparation of structures and resources and men to face the first substantial arrival after the contingent already destined for Veneto of 40 refugees (16 of which already arrived in Padua and Venice). The Treviso Prefecture will carry out in these hours a capillary survey of the spaces of resources and availability).

FIRST THE SERENA

For now, 6, or perhaps 8, are destined for Treviso and its province, apparently belonging to two families, which will go to the empty building inside the complex of the former Serena barracks, on the border between Treviso and Casier.

The large hub, now largely empty compared to the times of the peaks of more than 880 migrants, was in fact chosen as the structure of the very first reception in the Marca for Afghan refugees. But it will be temporary hospitality, the prefecture reiterates, which will last the time strictly necessary to identify accommodations where the refugees can be sorted, to create a widespread reception model. In a few days the numbers are inevitably destined to grow.
