(ANSA) – MOSCOW, JUL 28 – The last surviving author of the failed Communist coup in Moscow in 1991 that triggered the dissolution of the USSR died at the age of 89, a Russian official announced. “Oleg Dmitrievitch Baklanov, who headed our space industry and the USSR Ministry of Construction, died today,” the director of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, Dmitri Rogozine, tweeted.
Little known abroad, Oleg Baklanov was one of the eight Soviet leaders behind the attempt to depose Mikhaïl Gorbachev, which began on August 19, 1991. (ANSA).
