The scarf dedicated to Edina Altara

Dedicated to Grazia Deledda, Edina Altara and Nereide Rudas, three women who influenced the twentieth century, and designed by Paolo Curreli

SASSARI. The Bagella di Sassari brand presents a new scarf collection created by the designer Paolo Curreli and inspired by three Sardinian women who are emblematic of their role in the culture of the 20th century: Grazia Deledda, Edina Altara and Nereide Rudas.

“The choice is motivated, not only by the objective value of their work – explains Rinaldo Bagella – carried out in very different fields, but also stems from the idea of underlining the courage that unites these women who in the last century managed to express their art and their critical thinking and affirm oneself in a male universe ». The collaboration between Bagella and Curreli thus reaches its third consecutive year, consolidating itself as an appointment in which Sardinian design and tradition create a virtuous partnership. «I chose a citation of the Viennese secession for Deledda – explains Curreli – to remove his figure from folklorism and reposition it in the European climate. Altara, on the other hand, I wanted to represent her as an Andy Warhol for the multiple activities of her “factory”. Nereid Rudas for me probed the soul of the coral island, the blood hidden in its depths ».

The new collection will be sold not only in the historic Corso store in Sassari, but also online through the brand’s e-commerce. The collection will be presented on social media with images of the scarves and texts that deepen the personalities of the three female figures protagonists of the project. The texts were edited by Professor Antonella Camarda, art historian and director of the Nivola Museum in Orani and by Bastiana Madau author, editor and literary critic.

“Altara is an intellectual who feeds on a thousand suggestions – writes Camarda – reworking in an unmistakable style, comparing herself on a par with the greatest of her time” and it is precisely these suggestions that emerge in the foulard designed by Curreli.

«The genius from Nuoro – writes Madau on Deledda – carried out her artistic operation, making the island of the Sardinians the“ land of myth ”and thus becoming part of the European imagination. The look of the artist and designer of this wonderful scarf, thinking of the writer, Nobel Prize for Literature, gives us the features of a queen. The grandeur, the royalty, the authority and the enormous beauty of his writing could not have been translated into a fuller vision: with the stylistic features of Art Nouveau, the sumptuousness of traditional Sardinian jewels, the yellow of the sun and the colors of the earth “.

Nereide Rudas was the first woman in Italy to found and direct a psychiatric clinic in 1978. «But it has distinguished itself – writes Madau – not only as a profound connoisseur of the human soul but also as a specialist in the dynamics that have contributed to fueling mythology and mythography about Sardinia; it is in fact considered an authentic pivot of Sardinian culture, to which it has dedicated careful studies ». Among the essays, “L’isola dei coralli. Itineraries of identity ”- which is the main inspiration for the design of Curreli’s wonderful scarf – in which the author outlines the profile of a people in search of a fuller self-awareness. The foulard has a midnight blue background, a shade that evokes the depths of the sea where coral grows but also the unfathomability of the psyche ».
