The photo of the Church of the Holy Face wins Wiki Loves Monuments – News

The church of the Santo Volto in Turin is the protagonist of the winning photo of the Piedmont and Aosta Valley edition of Wiki Loves Monuments, the largest photographic competition in the world organized by the Wikimedia project communities. This year’s regional edition saw 2869 photos uploaded by 133 participants. The awards ceremony for the winners of the 2023 edition took place in the Archimede Library in Settimo Torinese. From 13 January to 2 February the library will host the exhibition dedicated to the winning shots of the last two editions of the competition, offering an opportunity to discover the importance of protecting and enhancing local cultural heritage, represented by Wiki Loves Monuments.


The reflected image of the Church of the Holy Face immortalized by Andrea.lescio took first place. The evocative photograph of the Church of San Martino in Antagnod taken by Xlniko deserved the silver medal. Third place went to Domeian, with the geometries of the Sanctuary of Valinotto in Carignano, followed by the evocative view of the church of Santa Maria al Monte dei Cappuccini in Turin, by Justinawin. Fifth place was awarded to the grayscale shot by Zingphoto, depicting the Collegiate Church of Sant’Orso in Aosta, followed by the play of light of the Bard Fort, immortalized by the user Dottorgonzi. For the special prize “Photograph your library”, first and third place were awarded to the black and white shots by Elisa Sit, portraying the Archimede Multimedia Civic Library of Settimo Torinese. Second place was won by the baroque furnishings of the Casale Monferrarto seminar library, immortalized by Ziapalmi. Fourth place is the shot of the library of the Bela Rosin mausoleum by user AlVi1972. A special mention was given to three photographs: the view from above of snow-covered Cogne by Betti 1955, the Grinzane Cavour Castle by Elio Pallard and the magic of the Oratory of Sant’Antonio Abate a Baceno, by FrancescoSchiraldi85.
