MORIAGO OF THE BATTLE. The beaches of the poor that too often turn into places of the most insane nightlife, or even of death. From Segusino to San Biagio di Callalta, passing through Covolo, the Island of the Dead, Pedrè di Falzè, Ponte della Priula, Lovadina, Ponte di Piave.
“The situation is now unmanageable”, says Fabio Botton, who with a group of friends from the parish of Falzè is organizing a “TeNpesta alla Piave” holiday weekend to collect resources to be allocated to safety and cleaning interventions on the attacked beach. times, by hordes of uncivilized.
But the Isle of the Dead just isn’t. This could not have been the place of such ferocity after the carnage more than a hundred years ago.
The sacred history
Leave your car in the parking lot a few meters from the barred entrance. Put your first foot on the avenue that introduces the monumental area and hold your breath: you immediately have the sensation of stepping on a sacred area. You walk for about 10 minutes and here is the shrine, the monument, the cannons looking at you. And, in front of you, the table indicating the Piave. The path becomes narrow, another 10 minutes and you arrive on a pebble, the bed of the Piave that fills up only when the Brentana arrives.
You cross and after a large pebble beach you are on the shores of the splendid, very transparent, sweet waters of the river. It is here, probably sheltered by some bushes, that Elisa stretched out in the sun. On Tuesdays the Piave has little attendance, perhaps more on Mondays, then increases towards the weekend, when you have to walk a kilometer to park.
Wild parking lots
«What happened is distressing – admits Botton, the sentry of the Piave in Falzè -. We have organized an equipped park behind the beach, but from year to year the attendance increases dramatically, until it explodes and becomes ungovernable. It would take the intervention, on certain weekends, of the police. Behaviors are increasingly uncivilized: they leave you all kinds of waste, the music is shot to the stars, there is no shortage of shouts, screams, many times the quarrels ».
Between the Island of the Dead and Falzè there are the White Fountains, an incomparable nature reserve that also laps the Piave. “Only the limited number, in this case, could guarantee respect for the area,” says Botton. From Segusino down it is a whole beach. In Segusino, in fact, cars are even parked along the provincial road.
Umbrellas, mattresses, thermal bags and cream are the ingredients of “Ae Barche”, the recreational-environmental park on the Piave in Covolo di Pederobba, on the other side of Vidor. The wild parking lots piss off residents, even prevented from leaving their homes. The youngest have fun with their reckless dives in the water holes. Also in this case there are volunteers but sometimes they are mocked.
Marco Turato, the mayor of Pederobba, thinks about specific regulations. “Every access to the Piave is used to enter and lie down in the sun, but you have to do it with caution,” warns Vincenza Scarpa, Mayor of Susegana, as well as a doctor.
We need precaution
“In the municipal area we have installed numerous bathing bans, because the quality of the water is not guaranteed and above all, deep holes with whirlpools suddenly appear, but – says the mayor – unfortunately no one can stop the people from bathing “. Scarpa relaunches a recommendation: «Often isolated corners are chosen, sheltered by vegetation, perhaps to capture the sun entirely. It is wise not to do this for security reasons ».
Despite the possibility of throwing themselves into the sea, many in San Biagio di Callalta will flock to the Piave shore, where parties and rave parties are organized. The same goes for Zenson, Ponte di Piave and Breda. Recently, after the floods following the Vaia storm, there have been very large deforestations and other beach sites have been created, from the middle Piave downwards. But the surveillance, for many reasons, is not operational, except in places of consolidated attendance.
