Railway Departments Increase Transportation Capacity for Migrant Workers Returning to Work After Lunar New Year

As the seventh day of the Lunar New Year arrives, many travelers are making their return journeys to work after visiting family and friends. In response to the increased flow of passengers, railway departments in various regions have increased their transportation capacity to accommodate the returning workers.

Train G2301, carrying 556 Yunnan migrant workers, departed from Zhenxiong Station at 7:27 a.m. on February 15. The Chengdu Bureau of China Railway has announced that special trains for migrant workers from southwest China to multiple destinations will operate between February 15 and March 5. The State Railway Xi’an Bureau has also added special trains for migrant workers from Hanzhong to Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

In an effort to assist migrant workers with their return journeys, the National Railway Wuhan Bureau is operating a 14-day special return train for migrant workers in the Dabie Mountains area, sending nearly 10,000 fellow Dabie Mountain residents back to work. Additionally, the National Railway Harbin Bureau has opened a fast return channel for migrant passengers from Gannan County, Qiqihar City, using a “road + railway” seamless docking model.

Zhou Wenqing, Deputy Director of the Passenger Transport Workshop of Qiqihar Station, stated that they have established a WeChat group to serve migrant workers, coordinating their travel time, number of people, and batches. This has enabled them to have 11 batches of migrant workers return to work already.

To cope with the double overlapping flow of workers and family visits, railway departments in various regions have adopted methods such as adding additional trains, reconnecting EMUs, and adding additional carriages to expand transportation capacity. The Zhengzhou Bureau of the National Railway Group has adjusted train schedules in real time based on passenger flow and online booking, and has streamlined additional personnel and increased departure intervals to ensure sufficient transportation capacity.

To provide further assistance to migrant workers, railway staff on trains from Nanchang to Chengdu East, Guangzhou, and other destinations have been collecting and distributing legal guidelines for migrant workers to help them increase their awareness of their rights and protect their legitimate interests.

In addition to providing transportation, railway departments have also focused on providing detailed services to warm the return of the travelers. Various railway lines have enriched their meal options, offering hot-chain box lunches, and other delicious local meals along the route. The State Railway Lanzhou Bureau has set up a “New Year’s Goods Fair” and a bonded store for imported goods at Beijing Station. Additionally, staff at Yingtan North Station have made anti-lost bracelets for children to prevent them from getting separated from their parents during crowded travel periods.

As the Lunar New Year festivities come to an end, the railway departments have gone the extra mile to ensure that the return journey of the travelers is as smooth and comfortable as possible.
